Manica Agro-Food Center: our first mission in Mozambique

During our first mission to Mozambique, we met with representatives from the world of institutions and cooperation, local entrepreneurs and producers, to develop the project for the construction of the new multipurpose agro-food centre in Manica Province (CAAM)

After having met, in the capital Maputo, representatives of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Mozambique, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, the Ministry of Agriculture and companies in the logistic sector, we moved to Chimoio, Manica Province capital – where the CAAM, Manica Agro-Food Centre, will be built – to meet local stakeholders.

In Chimoio, we met João Ferreira, the president of the municipal council, who is committed to promoting sustainable urban food policies, which are considered a key element for improving the quality of life in the city.

We then visited the “Mercado 38“, where, together with the director and local producers, we participated to a focus group to discuss the dynamics of the market and the opportunities for development of the future agro-food market.

Finally, the return to Maputo and the meeting with all the experts involved in the project marked the conclusion of the analysis phase of the value chains and relevant subjects for the future Manica Agro-Food Centre.

The consortium formed by STI Corporate, Sinloc and CibuSalus Srl will now work on the business plan for the implementation of the new market. The project will also provide the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and the local Ministry of Agriculture with the elements to evaluate the technical dimensioning and business model of CAAM.
