On Saturday, 28 September 2024, a conference of great relevance for the future of agri-food markets was held at Mercafir, the agri-food centre in Florence.
The event, organised to coincide with the 5th International Food Loss and Waste Awareness Day, emphasised the importance of promoting sustainable models throughout the agrifood supply chain.
The Florence food market intends to enhance its role as an activator of projects in the territory, proposing itself both as an incubator of the city’s food policies and as a central node for the distribution of fresh produce to Florence’s public canteens. An initiative that will see its full implementation from 2025. This project will contribute not only to reducing food waste, but also to ensuring a fair and sustainable distribution of fresh food, supporting the health and well-being of local communities.
During the session, coordinated by Luca Lanini of CibuSalus, on ‘The new functions of food markets between economic and social values’, topics of great interest and topicality for the market, the city and the entire metropolitan area were addressed: the creation of a local food hub and the fight against food waste and health at the table.
In addition, Romina Valentini, dietician and CibuSalus consultant took part in the round table ‘For a Food Policy in Florence: Actors and Protagonists, where she highlighted the health aspects linked to proper nutrition, in particular linked to the consumption of fruit and vegetables.
