Client:
University of Foggia

Project Start Date:
September 2024

Project End Date:
August 2025

Project Description:
The WUHAO project – Wholesale markets and University to build Healthy & Sustainable Agrifood – funded by the ONFOODS Program within the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), aims to develop innovative solidary logistics models to reduce food waste. The project involves wholesale markets in Parma, Andria, and Sestu, promoting economic, social, and environmental sustainability and fostering collaborative approaches throughout the agri-food supply chain.

Needs:
The WUHAO project addresses the need to improve surplus food management and reduce waste along the agri-food supply chain. Meetings with key stakeholders, including market operators, charitable organizations, and policymakers, will help identify barriers and opportunities to ensure effective planning and shared solutions.

Expected Outcomes:
The implementation of innovative logistics models will optimize surplus food redistribution, contribute to waste reduction, and enhance economic, social, and environmental sustainability. The project aims to become a replicable model for other wholesale markets in Italy.

Features:
CibuSalus supports the University of Foggia through technical assistance and consultancy, focusing on:

  • Analysis of socio-technical barriers to identify obstacles and propose innovative solutions.
  • Development of logistics models to optimize surplus food redistribution.
  • Assessment of economic, social, and environmental impacts of the project.

The project also includes a gender analysis to ensure all activities are inclusive and align with equity principles across the agri-food supply chain.
